Thank you so much for your prayers here are some ways
in which God is answering!
TEAM FROM UKRAINE
The team from CC Kiev was a huge blessing! We were able to put on a
concert, do several street outreaches, show the "Passion of Christ"
two nights, organize an Easter program at the orphanage we visit, and
begin our Sunday services! Easter Sunday was our first service. Melanie's
parents were here also so George Markey (Melanie's Dad) preached Sunday
mornings while he was here.
The outreaches made it clear to us that many people are open. It seems
that many of the churches here are afraid to openly evangelize because
of the Muslim influence. Surprisingly though, we had no problems with
the local officials and large numbers of people gathered to hear the
gospel. It is amazing that in a country that is over 80% Muslim there
are those so open to the gospel of Jesus Christ! Of course there are
challenges to living in a place so influenced by Islam, but those whop
are opposed are far fewer than those who are open.
THE BEGINNING OF THE CHURCH
We are now meeting Sunday mornings in an old theatre in the center of
the city. So far we have had three services and this Sunday we will
begin going through the Gospel of John. Praise the Lord the owner is
letting us use the place for free! He is not a believer so pray for
his salvation. His name is Richard. We also are starting a new believers
study on Tuesday nights. This Tuesday will be our first! Saturday nights
we also meet at our place and we are going through the letter to the
Galatians. Now that we are meeting publicly we will need to begin the
process of registering the church. We need at least 10 people who are
Kyrgyz citizens to begin this process (a few of the students that attend
are from other countries, so they don't count). The registration is
important because it will allow us to openly, as a church, meet without
worrying about being closed down by the police. Right now we cannot
legally say that we are a church. Even though biblically we are!
PERSONAL
Melanie's Mom and Dad arrived just in time for the birth. We picked
them up form the airport on the 4th at which time Melanie was already
having contractions 5 minutes apart. The next morning at 5:30AM on April
the 5th she gave birth. Titus Daniyar Billings is healthy and growing
everyday. He brings lots of joy to us both!
Melanie is leading worship and translating for the Sunday service. She
feeds the baby right before we start and then he's good for the service
and then needs to be fed right after we end. I'm the set up crew, the
sound man, the slide man, and somewhere in there I teach :) We are doing
the Sunday services in English and Russian because of the Chinese, Indian,
and Pakistani population. Right now only the Tuesday and Saturday studies
are in Russian. We really want to start a Kyrgyz study as well, but
we'll have to wait for a translator to get saved or for me to learn
Kyrgyz (the translator is a better possibility!) We feel privileged
to be able to live here and be apart of God's work. We are so thankful
for your prayers and support.
PRAYER REQUESTS
-Pray that the Lord would continue to save people and that He would
give us wisdom in reaching the lost.
-Pray that the believers who are coming would grow and gain a hunger
and love for God and His Word.
-For the church's registration.
-Pray for George&Pam Markey and Jed&Renee Gourley as they are
seeking the Lord about moving here to work with us.
-For a mighty work of the Holy Spirit in conviction of sin and drawing
people to Christ!
-Praise God Katie Glattback (a missionary we had the privilege of working
with in Ukraine) is coming to help us with the beginning of the church!
Pray for her as she seeks the Lord about staying on long term.
We are also planning on sending out a periodical physical newsletter
with pictures and other information about the ongoing work here. If
you would like to receive these newsletter please send us your mailing
address.
Blessings,
Paul, Melanie, and Titus
