These past couple of months have been an exciting, and yet often trying time for us. We are so grateful for your constant prayers for us and for the cards and emails you have sent. Thank you for your encouragement and partnership with us!

    Recent Events
As George and Paul left for the States in late December, we knew that we were facing a challenging time here in Bishkek. We were so blessed that the church in Kiev sent Slavic to be a help to us for the past three weeks. Slavic led worship, met with people from the church, worked in the youth club, helped with driving and even cooking. Of course, all of the kids were excited to see someone from Kiev, and as Anna rattled off in Russian, I was able to see just how much she had been learning in school.

The day after Slavic arrived we were planning to celebrate Christmas. With Renee being 9 months pregnant, and me being busy with things, we had not had much time to decorate the house. We could not even find a tree, except a fake little two-footer that our landlords had packed away.

We had already been experiencing power outages in our region, but on Christmas Eve we were granted another one. Since our house is heated by electricity, we decided that perhaps we should move in with “Grandma Pam” and celebrate Christmas there. It was a good thing we did – the electricity was off for almost three days. As I came home to feed the dog and check on the house, the inside temperature dropped below 45 degrees.

We know that God works all things together for good to those who love Him, and truly He used this as good in our lives. With George and Paul both gone, it was a blessing to all be together in one house. With the birth just around the corner, Renee not having to cook and clean as much was a great help. It was easier to plan and pray together as a team with Slavic and Melanie there also. And with “Grandma Pam’s” house being decorated for Christmas, the Lord fulfilled even what we were not able to do.

    The Church
Since New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday this year, we were not expecting very many people to come to the service. We were amazed, however, to see quite a turnout. Renee continued teaching Sunday school until two days before her delivery. I was blessed to continue our studies in the book of Acts.

Concerning registering the church, we heard from the lawyer working on it that progress is being made, but that we need to choose another name for the church than what we had listed. So, we are excited that things are moving forward, and we continue to ask for your prayers regarding the church registration.

Well, we have not been able to get a new family picture yet, but we do have some wonderful pictures of our new little one. Rachel Ellen Gourley greeted us with her soft cry on January 9th at 8:20 am. She weighed in at 9 pounds 4 ounces, 20 ½ inches long. So far, she is the calmest baby that we have had. If she stays this way, I know Renee is going to want another one.

The day that Rachel was born, Joshua came down with croup. Going to the hospital here can sometimes be ineffective and even dangerous to your health. So one night when he could hardly breathe, Slavic and I rushed him to a missionary doctor who gave him a shot of steroids to allow him to breathe. Thankfully, the croup gradually got better after that moment, but it was hard not knowing what to do or where to go in times like that. How often I am reminded of how needy we are and how our only hope is to rely upon the Heavenly Father.

    By His Grace,

Jed, Renee, Anna, Elizabeth, Joshua, & Rachel

    Please pray for:
    - Continued healing of Joshua.
    - The registration of the church, a new name for the church.
    - A new Bible study beginning next week.
    - Us as we study the Kyrgyz language.
    - The future of the youth club - government now discussing using the building differently.
